This cabbage soup is simple, warming, and delicious. It's got a slight kick due to red pepper flakes. Throw your leftover Thanksgiving turkey or anything else you love in it to make it your own, but I love it just the way it is.

So my son was given a small green cabbage by my mother in law.  My son is very excited to eat it.  He's 2.5 years old... Today I decided to use some of our local veggies and wanted to make soup and bread. So I decided on chicken barley soup because that's simple enough and I can just put whatever I want in it. So tonight I made Mataha, which is an East African dish. It's a dumpling in the bottom of the bowl with a vegetable soup on top. It's from this vegetarian bean cookbook I have, Bean Banquets.
